Distractions overwhelm home office
Q: I work out of my home, and having my kids around for the holidays made me realize I might need to make the move to a professional office.
There are just too many distractions here, and it's often hard to focus on my business.
But it's a little intimidating to make the move.
How can I avoid making a costly mistake?
A: You might want to start by renting an executive suite or subletting office space where you don't have any major upfront expense or long-term commitment.
With either option, you should be able to get a short-term lease or even rent by the month while you try on the concept.
Executive suites are typically furnished and come with service options such as a receptionist, receipt of mail and packages, personalized telephone answering, access to office equipment, access to the Internet, use of a conference room and more.

Maintenance chief suspended
SWARTZ CREEK - The school district's building and grounds maintenance supervisor was suspended Friday while officials investigate whether bills submitted by a vendor and paid by the district were for work at the supervisor's Clayton Township home, School Superintendent Jeff Pratt said.
Terry Koczenasz was put on paid administrative leave while school officials, the district's attorney and auditors investigate allegations that Koczenasz had quid pro quo dealings with Emerald Lawn & Landscaping. The Flint Journal also has been investigating the allegations since September and reviewed several invoices dating back to 2004 with administrators.
"What alarms me is ... we continue to find more that warrants more investigation," Pratt said after reviewing the documents provided by The Journal.
Clicking on a Trip Through the Wild, Wild Web
If you search for God on Google, the first thing you're likely to find is a video essay titled "The Interview With God,'' which serves up a breezy Q&A with the Author of Creation punctuated by New Age-y piano riffs.
Why "The Interview With God'' and not the Book of Job or the Bhagavad-Gita?
Because Google's busy little algorithmic brain tends to give priority to Websites that link to the most other sites with similar content, and satisfy other criteria known only to Google's inner circle.
It may well be that ``The Interview With God'' reached its lofty perch because it's profound, or at least profoundly popular. But at this point in the Web's evolution, it's no stretch to guess that someone connected with it probably knew how to finesse the Web's search-engine mechanisms.
Taming of the mew
"It's unbelievable. Most people don't see feral cats. They drive through an area and say, 'There's no cats in this town.' It's because they are hiding all the time, and they only come out at night, mainly. They are all over," Joliet's Joe Bertoglio said.
