Home Telemarketing: Fact Or Fiction?
Many classified ads contain job advertisements promising that telemarketers who work from home make as much or more money as those who work in a call center. There are even some that claim earning potentials of thousands in the first week. It's only smart to be skeptical of such claims, but are there really work from home telemarketing jobs?
Actually there are such jobs. For many people a work from home telemarketing job is a great way to make money, if coupled with quality products and support. However, these jobs are not in great abundance. The quality work from home jobs are not easy to find and must be sorted out of the vast majority of undesirable clones. Consultant surprised Chinese workers paid fee for Manitoba jobs
WINNIPEG An immigration consultant whose company recruited 61 Chinese workers for Maple Leaf Foods Manitoba pork plant says shes baffled by reports some of the employees paid $10,000 each to get the jobs.
Sophia Cummings said yesterday she was paid directly by Maple Leaf Foods for her services and did not take any money from the workers.
Cummings, who heads S. Cummings and Associates in Vancouver, declined to answer specific questions about her work and fee structure.
All I can say is this is not true, said Cummings, who returned home Sunday from vacation in the United Kingdom to learn about the payments in a Globe and Mail story.
But I want to be cautious because I really care about these Chinese employees.
Artist Spotlight: Eve Strella of Pittsford
Evolution as an artist: My father, Robert M. Johnston, earned his living as a professional artist, and my brother, sister and I all have what I call the "art gene." I work at my art at every opportunity and usually take art supplies and always carry my digital camera with me when I travel, just in case something inspires me. Inspiration: Inspiration comes from nature, color, landscapes, topical settings and generally from things of beauty. I'm never sure what will inspire me until I see it. Then I can't paint, draw or photograph fast enough.
Featured work: The Road Home, colored pencil, inspired by a photograph I took of the lane leading to the farm where I grew up in western Pennsylvania. The beauty and color drew me in, and the level of detail sparked my interest and creativity.
A long day at school, but it's fun
It was 3 p.m. and most students at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex were heading home. But not fifth-grader Victor de la Rosa and his friend Jamil Khan. They joined more than 130 other students in the cafeteria, where they will do their homework, have a snack and spend three more hours in the SCORE after-school program.
Do they envy the classmates pouring out of the exits? Not a bit.
“This is fun," de la Rosa said as he outlined his afternoon. “If I need help with my homework I can get it. There is time to go to the library and work on the computers. I can hang out with my friends. Friday we're going to see the movie ‘Happy Feet.'"
SCORE stands for Student Care in Organized Recreation and Education. It is a collaboration between the Ventnor school district and the city Recreation Department, which got a five-year federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant to provide after-school options from 3 to 6 p.m.
‘Abuse prompts domestic helpers to murder sponsors’; Maids should ...
Al-Marzouk added domestic helpers are often subjected to physical and sexual abuse which had driven some of them to murder their sponsors. He asked employment agencies bringing domestic helpers to Kuwait to closely monitor the living conditions of the workers and focus on the kind of treatment they receive from their employers. In case of maltreatment, Al-Marzouk added the agencies should arrange to send the workers back to their home countries after receiving their salaries and privileges.
Pointing out that domestic helpers do not receive the salaries and privileges stipulated in the employment contracts they signed prior to working with their sponsors, Al-Marzouk stressed we need to consider the situation of these workers, who decided to embark on a perilous journey, away from their friends and families, to earn a living.
How to Make a Living Working from Home
(ARA) - Feel like you're stuck in a dead-end job that's barely earning you enough money to pay for daycare? Miss watching your kids grow up? Now is the time to do something about it!"So many people put in long hours at work thinking it will get them ahead of the game, when in reality it costs them dearly," says Tina of Florida. She had worked full time in the same office for years, doing everything from administrative assistant to office manager, while her daughter spent her time in daycare. But after a messy divorce, Tina decided to make some major changes. "Lyndsey was a trooper, but I knew she needed me to be around for comfort, so instead of trying to find work, I decided to stay home with her full-time."Within a year's time, however, as her savings were dwindling, Tina realized she had to find work to make ends meet.
Ahead of the class
At 4:30 a.m., Jose Sandoval is scouring his textbooks and looking up word definitions on Answers.com for his history class.
After a day of International Baccalaureate classes, Sandoval works out for an hour after school, goes home and eats dinner, then hits the homework again until midnight.
When his friends at L.D. Bell High School in Hurst talk about Grey's Anatomy or Heroes, Sandoval feels out of step. He doesn't have time for TV.
"I've seen those shows, and they don't interest me much," said Sandoval, 18, a senior.
What interests him is getting into an Ivy League school. Harvard is his first choice.
As an academic high achiever, Sandoval has plenty of company -- and competition.
In an age of increasing school accountability stemming from the federal No Child Left Behind Act, and because students must pass the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills to earn a diploma, another high-stakes game is being played.
