Home Telemarketing: Fact Or Fiction?
Many classified ads contain job advertisements promising that telemarketers who work from home make as much or more money as those who work in a call center. There are even some that claim earning potentials of thousands in the first week. It's only smart to be skeptical of such claims, but are there really work from home telemarketing jobs?
Actually there are such jobs. For many people a work from home telemarketing job is a great way to make money, if coupled with quality products and support. However, these jobs are not in great abundance. The quality work from home jobs are not easy to find and must be sorted out of the vast majority of undesirable clones. Those who want to find this line of work may have to spend significant time and effort searching for the few legitimate opportunities.
Amicus angered by decision to close Birds Eye in Hull
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2007) - Amicus, the UK's largest manufacturing union, has expressed anger at Unilever's decision to close its Bird's Eye frozen fish factory in Hull with the loss of 340 jobs.
Workers at the factory in Hull, were sent home from work today, following the announcement that the factory would be shut and the work moved to Felixstowe, Suffolk and Bremerhaven in Germany. Unilever plans to close the Hull site by September this year.
The union says these job cuts are the direct result of poor job protection in the UK. Amicus want UK employment laws strengthened to stop UK workers losing jobs because they are cheaper and easier to sack than other workers in Europe.
Amicus' Regional Officer, Tony Randerson, said:
"We are shocked and dismayed at the decision to close the factory in Hull as we had been receiving positive not negative vibes from the company.
The Six Best Jobs for Working At Home
Every day I get email asking me how to find legitimate work-at-home jobs. I have to say this always baffles me because every week I wade through thousands of jobs to find a select few to post in my weekly newsletter. The problem I believe is that people look for the wrong jobs in the wrong places. They often limit themselves to jobs like "typing" or "data entry" that are so rare they might as well give up on the idea of working at home.
My suggestion to them is to find work in areas that are hiring. There are many companies looking for home-based employees to do work that doesn't necessarily require a great deal of experience or education. So why not go after these jobs?

It's not too late to make some smart resolutions
YOU'VE PROBABLY ALREADY given up on your New Year's resolution. And why not? I mean honestly, how nutritious are Brussels sprouts? And who's even gonna notice a missing five pounds? Everybody knows that resolutions are just a gimmick cooked up by the diet and exercise industry. (Although I saw something online about a mythical Roman king named Janus who started the whole resolution thing in 153 B.C. but you know how unreliable the Web is.)
Or maybe I'm selling you short. Maybe Shakespeare's tragedies are piled up on your nightstand right now, or you're flossing while doing sit-ups while calling your sick grandmother. Maybe you're recycling more, relying on Tylenol PM less, and finally addressing the mold issue in your basement. My congratulations.
If however, you are in the vast majority who don't bother with resolutions at all, to you I say: It's not too late.
Park recovering from bitter blizzard County hit with wind, nearly 10 cm of snow
Visibility was poor, cars slid into the ditch, buses came to a stand-still and many stayed home from work or school. According to Environment Canada, with the windchill factor, temperatures reached as low as -37 C in the region on Wednesday evening. Combined with nearly 10 centimetres of snow and wind speeds of up to 35 km/h during the day on Wednesday, the county was almost a complete white-out. The weather caused a sharp rise in the number of traffic collisions and slide-offs, according to Const. Darren Anderson of the Strathcona RCMP. Police issued a warning recommending residents to stay home unless they absolutely needed to travel. We saw an increase of collisions. The blowing snow and ice made visibility very difficult, said Anderson. But motorists had a lot of advanced notice. Police also issued a tow ban for nearly 48 hours.

Commentary: African life redefines bravery
If that's brave, then a Zulu woman named Lungile is the bravest woman I know. She was the last of twelve children, and her father died when she was fifteen days old. Her mother moved to Johannesburg to find work, leaving Lungile with an aunt.
Her aunt abused Lungile like Cinderella. She beat her constantly, and eighteen years later, out of sheer hatred, hired a witch doctor to rape Lungile.
Lungile fought the witch doctor and escaped, but within 24 hours she bought rat poison and attempted suicide. Classmates found Lungile unconscious and took her to the hospital.
Lungile managed to finish high school and get a good job in the city. Soon her older sister died. As the only one in the family with steady income, Lungile went home and paid for the funeral.
Randy Jackson starts seeking Fox's next ‘American Idol'
After Taylor Hicks was crowned the fifth ``American Idol'' last May, the judges of the hugely popular Fox singing competition had little downtime. Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell were back on duty in August as auditions for another ``Idol'' round began in Los Angeles. The results start becoming evident as Ryan Seacrest hosts the two-part premiere of the show's sixth season Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 16 and 17. ``You never really know what you're gonna get,'' Jackson says, ``but I'm always pleasantly surprised, and that includes this sixth season. These are people wearing their souls on their sleeves. They haven't learned to play the game yet, so you're seeing raw talent.
``Many years ago, I knew that somewhere in America -- and probably in many cities -- is an abundance of talent that record companies never see, just because of how they do business.
